There isn't one. The fuel tank sender just connects directly to the dash. :y

so dose that mean its computer control'd as trying to find out why have high volts on tank sender say ther is 2 types computer control'd and regulator on GM page. computer control ones are more acrite than regulator one's.
says this on web page Full - 84-88 ohms Half - 40 ohms, give or take Empty - 0-2 ohms
but am getting 93ohm on emty tank and high volts on mid display and tryed 2 other mids to see if it was the mid display. but if fill tank up to half way voltage is right and say 0 miles on all displays i have. the ohms then are 3ohms. but the dash wavers about above and below half way with out driving any were, when driving gose down to 5mm under stop go's backup. ???

The dash provides a regulated current source to the sender and the voltage across the sender will depend on its' resistance. The MID senses the voltage on this signal.

Bear in mind that the display on the dash is heavily damped so you won't see instant changes.

However, if you're seeing a resistance of 93 ohms on an empty tank it does point to the sender. Can you remove if from the tank and make sure the resistance varies smoothly with float position?

The other thing to check is that the instrument panel is firmly connected. Often the connections at the rear of the panel can become loose and pushing the panel back firmly can help.

well had the sender out of the tank, checked it and nothing wrong with it is in good condishion, checked the volts going to sender says it should be 5volts but getting 4.77volts. checked wires to under back seat  and look fine.. so only other thing it could be is the flex board on the dash, but would any board do or do's it have to be off same engine size?? or the gauge?

Hi Rusty,

I was looking on ebay the other day and there was a complete brand new instrument panel for a 2.0 going for not much money.

I guess you could swap the fuel gauge dial over but it would be fiddly and I'd suggest a complete dash swap as being the least stressful option TBH. If you really really want to strip the panel down then I reckon that I have one somewhere you can have for the postage cost. Ok, it will be from a V6 but the gauge will be the same.

If swapping the whole panel over then they need to be the same - although in saying that if they are incorrect an you put a V6 panel into a 2.0 then the rev counter wont be accurate - but the speedo will go to 160MPH  :y.

Thanks - Rob

Did you measure 4.77 volts with the sender disconnected or connected?

with the sender plug wire from tank end not pluged in.
also noticed it dose not work as gm say it should says if you ground the wire the gauge should go to full but dose not move at all stays on emty only moves when you plug it back into the tank.? but the sender shows the same results as its page. guage dose not move with or with out grounding it only when its pluged back in. found a page saying that there is a part on the dash that can go wrong and its only one this model it was fixed on newer types somthing on the dash...

Instrument panels - 3 different eras, incompatible with each other

Up to 1998 - Non configurable, must match the engine
1998-1999 - programmable via tech2
2000-2003 - programmable, and I believe electrically compatible with 1998-1999, but different markings.
