I'm all for hunting game. I fly-fish, hunt rabbit and the odd terrorist.  But there is just no sport in crashing through the ice jumping off a boat and clubbing it on the head... and what for? The skin?  I eat the fish and rabbit I catch.....

While i dont agree with what they do, these guys still have families that have just lost a father, son or a brother and i don't wish that on anyone :-?

I agree the method of despatch is unecessarily cruel. I understand they get about $78 each, so if they have to hunt them then the cost of a bullet each is insignificant.

One trouble with meddling with nature is the unbalance that is caused. They were talking about being able to hunt 275,000 this year, that's a hell of a lot of seals. If they weren't killed, then wouldn't the population exploded in a couple of years, which would endanger fish stocks in the area, and have a knock on effect on other mamals ?. The only natural preditors they have are, I think, polar bears and killer whales, whether these could keep the popluation under control is debatable.

Don't get me wrong, I think wearing fur as fashion is wrong, but in some places its all they can wear to keep out the cold.

What a complex world we live in !

Ken
