Title: Alarm going off for no obvious reason
Post by: notacarbuff on 16 March 2012, 20:28:59
Hi there, today my car alarm has been going off for no obvious reason at irregular times. I dont have a hanging air freshener nor anything else that could be setting off the internal sensor. No doors are ajar nor is the boot ajar.

At the moment I am thinking that I may have to leave it unlocked or is there a way of disabling the alarm entirely or a likely solution.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Try disconnecting the bonnet switch. To lock car without setting alarm.............shut all doors, KEYS IN HAND, open rear o/s door and press driver`s doorpin down then shut rear door. Car is locked but no alarm

Random false alarms are normally:

Bonnet sensor
Window break sensors (estates)
Failing power sounder

Mine was a failing sounder...under the drivers side scuttle panel under the bonnet .so i removed it and on inspection it was so corroded it  was useless..also i have been told that they have caught fire before now on omegas so in the bin it went and never to be replaced...rest of the alarm system still works properly with no probs.. :y

Thanks for all of the responses. It has been OK since yesterday so I am not going to do anything more unless it happens again.  :y

I had a similar problem a few months ago which went on for about a week. I was driving one day and was attacked by a bloody big moth, moth disposed of and the problem went away ::)

Hi
I occasionally have this problem.  I have found the cause to be the bonnet close sensor, it happens especially when sunshine expands the bonnet.  I increased the padding above the switch.

Hi
I occasionally have this problem.  I have found the cause to be the bonnet close sensor, it happens especially when sunshine expands the bonnet.  I increased the padding above the switch.

If padding above has worked, then I'd suggest that the bracket is bent & needs bending back again.  :y :y
