Title: My car is reving itself!!
Post by: Daz1111 on 20 March 2012, 21:31:57
In the last couple of weeks a strange thing has started happening to my 02 2.2dti.

When I'm sitting at the lights with the clutch dipped the engine will suddenly rev itself. it only revs to about 2500rpm for a second or so and then it goes back to normal. It has done this 3 or 4 times. :o

Then today, after it had reved the emissions light came on and the car would drive properly. It limped along at about 1500rpm and if I tried to go faster clouds of smoke came out the back!! ???

I turned the car off for an hour and then it has run perfectly all afternoon. :)

What is going on? anybody got any ideas?

I have taken it to my mechanic but he says nothing will show up on the ngine management as no lights are on on the dash board.

He seemed to think that as the car is 10yrs old it wouldn't store anything - is this incorrect?
