MOT pass today so good news , however the car overheated on the way back again but its not your normal overheating . The car will hit the red zone then bounce back to 97-98 when driving wtf :-\ then when stopping at a junction the temp will rise again into the red and so on ... planning on flushing the rad again but will this cure it or is it something else :-\
tia
Oh yes the mot bloke said its running far too hot with the fans cutting in as much as they do , slight coolant leak down the back of engine some place he said , he also said it could be your head gasket :o :o
HBV is new and no leaks .
-
could be the cross over pipe fitting under inlets

First ive heard of that symes , difficult to get to ?
-
its the metal bridge coolant goes thru from one head to the other. My saloon kept weeing all over the rear of engine-stank mate-hot antifreeze-removed plenum and injector block-soon saw leak mate-replaced O rings and job done.

Martin has took the *astad bolt out before so think ill leave it to him seeing as he's left handed ;D
Reading up on here i see its a lot easier if you take the power steering pipe off but ill have a look to see how much of a *astad it is when its all stripped down . Will be interesting to see the condition of the thermostat :(
Do i need to drain the coolant ? ? If so i think ill use the cleaning stuff for the rad while its in bits .

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90647.0 read first took me 6 hours on my own but have never done one before :y

Can anyone help me out here please.
I need the part number for the coolant bridge seals if there is such a thing or is it just black sealant ?
-
The coolant bridge down the back is two hollow (banjo) bolts with dowty washers (two on each bolt), part numbers from my last invoice are:
V0012992647 129748/SEAL RING 4 £1.99ea
V0012992646 129743/HOLLOW SCREW 2 £6.30ea
(I was advised to get two new bolts just in case the old ones disintegrate on removal..)
-
Coolant bridge seals...or a some call them " doughty washers "as they are a metal washer with a rubber insert.
VX Part # 12992647 and you will require 4 .They go on each side of the hollow bolt that goes through the coolant bridge and must be replaced as the old ones are a " once only fit ".
Be carefull undoing and torquing up the hollow bolts as they are quite fragile.

Ok thank you very much for the part numbers and info ;)
Off the the stealers now :y

Before you rip the thing apart again, just make sure that you have not got some air in the system.
This would give exactly the same symptoms ;)
The v6's are a bitch to get all the air out sometimes.
After you have had some work done on the coolant system, it can take ages to get it all out believe me.
Daz sorted my cam belt out yesterday and I had the same problem coming home.
Sat in town traffic / steady plodding around, I had no problem.
A nice 70 mph + 10% ISH and it shot up a couple of times.
My advise would be to carry plenty of water with you. Loosen the top of the bottle a little and just go for a steady drive with the heaters on hot and let any air work its way out on its own :y
Note:- just being out for a good blast in mine with no overheating problems ;)

I know what your saying TG , but the temp gauge is all over the place . From cold it will rise as normal but soon as the car is driven for more than 8 miles it will hit the red zone then back down as soon as i stop at a junction ....it like another bloody rev counter :D :D :D ::)
Ps . Swmbo getting fed up with her feet getting burnt with heater on full :-X

headgaskets on mine started the leak from there.. the mechanics claim its not headgasket no need to strip down and I insisted.. I win ;D ( or I loose :-\ ) anyway for some time no need to worry for headgaskets (with a price tag! of course)
