Title: My first big car and loving it!
Post by: grain.ben on 22 March 2012, 18:44:58
Hi all, im new to this forum so I thought id introduce myself and tell you a little about my miggy (Katie).

Back in October last year, my old mk5 astra was causing me trouble so I had a look around to see what was out there to buy. Ive always liked the Omegas but thought they were too big and the running costs were probably too high, but I found one and instantly fell in love with it before i even got chance to sit in it. Its a 2001Y FL in ural mountain green, 2.2 16v CD Auto, and its completeley standard. I bought it knowing the running costs as Id like to have a little fun before the cost of motoring finally gets to me, also bearing in mind that im only 27 years old!. Since october I have found some things wrong with it and im slowly getting one bit at a time done. Ive done a lot of research into whats wrong and know what i need.

First of all, the rear drivers window does not work, the motor works but it makes a crackling noise and the window doesnt move.

Then i had some knocking from the front end, so had a look and ended up replacing the drop links on both sides and had a track rod end on the drivers side done. Now after having these sorted, there is still some very bad knocking from the drivers side on uneven surfaces, bumps and holes. I believe its the steering idler, but i believe thats on the near side, not the offside where the knocking is coming from. (this is my next job coz its so annoying!)

Found out that the rear accessory socket didnt work. (Found out that someone had removed the damn fuse)

Also got an oil leak which i believe is a warped rocker cover? Unsure for now.

I installed some rear parking sensors at either side of the number plate. (couldnt find a doner car with parkpilot, so ebay came to the rescue)

Installed a new stalk for the cruise control (just need it enabling with tech2 but vx want £85 to do it)

Looking for a CCR2006 so i can use the tape deck as an ipod input. (dont want to install aftermarket rubbish coz i dont to degrade the original equipment)

Put some original tailored mudflaps on the rear. (Just trying to get hold of the fronts).

Oh the drivers door cracks when you open and close it, so bought some new bushes from vx at the grand total of 68pence for two.

Looking for someone with a tech2 for the cruise and i also want a gearbox update.

So there you have it for now. If anyone can help me with what ive mentioned, that would be a great help.

welcome to the forum... :)
one thing to remember with the omega is when buying replacement parts, get genuine gm,not fleabay or aftermarket parts...
rocker cover leaking will be the gasket, none genuine seals dont work..imo... :)

Hi mate,
The accessory fuse may have been removed to stop the rear shocker air pump running after fitting standard shocks.
If your car has one that is, if not, ? :y

Cheers for that mate, already checked and im pretty sure mine has not got the self levelling system, so I really dont know why the previous owner removed the fuse. Maybe it was because its a permanent live and left something plugged in and ran the battery down, who knows lol  :o
