hi all,
thought i would try here first if thats OK ::)
Daughter has just got herself a 2001 series 3 E46 2.0 SE diesel. It has the "business" model steering wheel controlled radio / tape player which works fine. She would like a CD player though.
Looking through the manuals & handbooks it says that the radio /tape player is " ready prepared to accept a BMW 6 CD changer & upgrading is simple"
My question is is it just the case of buying the changer & mounting bracket etc. to fit in boot & just plug in & play ? :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
Bet it's not that simple :( :( :( :(
TIA . . . . Al :y :y :y :y

If its got CD changer prep then all you have to do is plug the CD changer in and it'll work :y As it's an SE and not an ES it should have a CD player or changer I would've thought.

Hi Del , I know bugger all about BM's :-[ :-[ so big learning curve for me here. Def a 320D SE Will check out boot area when she comes back , in case there is a changer in there already. Only got car 5pm last night ,so gotta have a good look round it find out how things work :-[ :-[ :-[
Tried to get her to have a VX but not enough street cred for her with one of those apparently ;D ;D ;D
thanks mate regards, Al

Checked out boot area . CD changer should go to left side on the tourer I presume behind carpeted cover where the warning triangle is stored.
Brackets are there along with 2 small loom connector blocks . . . so presume its had one in its early life but gone now . so should just be a plug in job I hope . Plenty for sale on the bay of fleas .
Other jobs & faults so far. . . . 1. no blower at all hopefully " porcupine resistor thingy"
2. rear wiper & washer not working.
If anyone has any knowledge or experience of these items any correspondance wil be greatly appriciated. thanks

Hi Al check cabling that goes through to tailgate as it becomes brittle and breaks....hence no wipes/washers.... :y
-
ISTR recall that although the radio unit is chager compatible that the wiring to the back was an option - albiet for anout £35 or so.
If its there then it will plug straight in :y, if not then try one of the BM forums as I'm sure this has come up many times before.

Hi mark, Thought I'd found the simple answer to the rear wash /wipe problem . . . NO fuse ::) ::) ::) fitted a 20A as stated & hey presto all working ::)
BUT . . . with that fuse in the front front wipers & washers don't work :o :o :o :o :o :o taken the rear fuse out for time being till got a bit more time :-\ :-\

Hi Robert , thanks for reply . There are 2 wiring connectors there & also the bracket to fit the changer to - so presume it has had one fitted previously :y

Al i would check the wiring on the tailgate...as a friend of mine who is a auto electricain nearly sent one of his customers (essex plod) 330 d up in smoke because of a short on the rear tailgate and iirc that had a problem like you posted.. :y
