we used to go out to a restraunt quite a lot and the owner became a mate lookes after us when we went there gave us something of the bill and some free drinks,he even invited us to his house and his wedding.now times are hard and we havnt been there for about 4 months and my mrs has seen a half price voucher offer for his place and wants to go.now i dont feel right about this as it seams we would be takeing advantage of him,so what do other people think?

Nothing wrong with giving him a bell though to explain why you haven't been out & about for so long.

I've got a similar situation where I'm good friends of the owners of a restaurant. But, I haven't had the money to go there so I haven't. I will do when I can afford to. :y
But giving them a call and having a chin wag is never a bad thing anyway. :y

i have phoned him a couple of times to keep in touch and he always says just pop in have a drink but then he gets you a drink then he just pops to the toilet or something and before you know it you have a meal in front of you [and he wont take any payment]and i feel iam takeing advantage so thats why i phone
just showed the mrs this and she dosnt agree says hes advertising so if we go we are surporting him makeing the place look busy and so we helping him.
think iam going to have to put my foot down on this one.
best go and place a blanket in the dog kennel!

I would say that if he's offering the deal then it's OK to use it ;)
At least you could go and have a chinwag, a meal and still give him something instead of him sneaking a meal in front of you FOC ;)
-
The deal is there to encourage customers. While I see what you mean, and understand fully, you'll be supporting him more by putting money through the till, than not going at all.
...seems to me anyway...?
-
Give him a call & explain your Missus' outlook on the deal , but that you feel bad about it as he has treated you so well in the past.
Times are hard for everyone at the moment thats why he's doing this promo. The profit margings in resturants are huge so he'll still be doing alright at half price
Bit of a tricky one to call though . . . think I'd feel like you to be honest :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

Tricky. Yes, it is designed to lure new customers. How your friend would react to you using a voucher is diffcult to predict. On one hand you could argue its better for him to have customers than no customers. However how would you feel if someone who was a friend turned up at your business and at the very end flashed a discount coupon? Personally I would feel a bit let down that friend felt the need to spring that on me. Others may feel differently.
My feeling is that I wouldnt take that liberty just for the sake of a discounted meal. I would rather give him a call and have a chat about it and he might just offer a discount to you over the phone?

+ another
give the voucher to someone you know who has not been before and recommend they go
Seems like you dont need it with his "friendship" and you will generate more business for him in the long run :y

Agreed. If you feel bad about it, order a couple extra drinks, more expensive wine, food not on offer... Ok, it defeats the object a little I know.
Also, remember as a restauranteur the cost to him of giving you a meal in the past is not great deal in real terms
-
use the voucher, buy an extra bottle or two of wine, and spend a little time on all those eat-out venue review sites bigging up his place....
that way you feel good, the wife is happy, and he gets the kudos he seems to richly deserve.... it may help .... at least it's got to be worth the effort.
-
well i put my foot down said i wasnt happy and that i wouldnt feel comftable about going
so ..............................................................................
she took no notice and went ahead and bought the voucher >:( >:(
her argument is
said she wants a nice night out [we havnt had a night out together this year due to having no spare cash] we both enjoy the place, and always have a good time.
think iam going to have to speak to him and eat some hunble pie
so not a happy bunny. :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
