just took my elite for MOT failed on droped link any idea how much they will charge me for fitting only a small local garage
-
Do you mean front drop links?
-
he didnt say just said dropped link
-
They are about £60 from the dealer. Although a factors will charge less. Plus labour. Hour should easily cover it. Half hour more realistically.
Provided the nuts and seized on.
-
Ps, should ask first, do you have a rattle/knock from the front suspension?
-
You can get a good pair from Vauxhallworldparts.com at a very reasonable price and fit them your self very easy to do but ensure you have both sides of the car jacked when you do. :y :y

Why???
I've always changed 'em one side at a time with no subsequent issues :y
To the Op - if your's are original fitting you will need an 18mm socket + breaker bar to undo.

Puts it under stress, makes it a bit more of a PITA. The spanner size varies, some are 17mm on notch, 18mm on nut. Some are both 18mm, some both 17mm.

as chris has said have you any undue noises from the front suspension ???, worn drop links will give a clunking over speed bumps etc ;)

Done mine twice now the first time did one side at a time very soon after rubber popped out of one. Advice from this wonderful forum was to have both sides jacked listen and set two been perfect. :y

no problems on ours - 10 minute job per side. Replacements are still ok after many miles :y
Original Vx links were 17mm on notch and 18mm nuts. Replacements seen usually 17mm/17mm although did a mates and his were 17mm on notch and 19mm nuts.

with both sides jacked, play can be very easily checked as the roll bar is unstressed. Which also means its not necessary to lever the roll bar up to get the holes to line up when fitting new ones. You can then do it in 5 mins a side.
...provided the nuts aren't seized of course.

Certainly possible jacking up only one side, but even easier to jack up both :y
