Now that OFCOM have removed price restrictions from the Royal Mail and a 20% increase to 60p for first class post is the immediate effect. Does anyone else think that the only reason for this massive price increase across the board is to tempt more carriers into the market competing with the Post Office leading to eventual privatisation. ;) ;)
I seem to recall that the Royal Mail Charter includes a restriction that postage will be the same cost within the U.K, I doubt that that will apply to other carriers who will cherry pick the City's and business post leaving places like the Shetlands either without a service or at vast expense.
Funny how announcements like this take place when Parliament is on another one of it's holidays, just how long an Easter break for our self servicing, politicians. >:( >:( >:(

imo, 60 pence is still pish cheap for a letter from one end of the uk to the other :y
May be better if they introduced a slideing scale based on distance ;)

30% ......I think..........and 40% for second class mail. :'(

Definitely a pre cursor to an IPO.
The new owner would not be seen as having introduced what is a very big increase when all said and done. Sadly it will just drive away more business into the arms of Ecard businesses. Why send a birthday card when you can often as not ring the person for free on many of the landline tariffs?!

I believe the price rises are applicable from the 30th April.

Best stock up for Christmas ;D :y :y

So much for the Government's / BOE's inflation target of 2%. :o :o :o >:( >:( >:(

Hears an interesting statistic today, If inflation was added to the cost of a penny black the cost of a first class stamp at todays values would be well over three quid :o

I would happily pay them to have 364 days holiday as it would stop them making things worse. :o :o :o
