Title: A trip to Loughborough
Post by: Marks DTM Calib on 28 March 2008, 14:54:37
Took a trip down to Fleetfit in Loughborough to get the geometry set on the face lift. Matchless had his done at the same time.

Was very impressed!

A lot of time and effort was spent getting things just right and the guy who runs the place spent a lot of time getting things spot on!

Very pleased and competitively priced to  :y

Yes, he does a good job and not so far to travel.

Better than the outfit in Nottingham.

Good to know there are alternatives around the country :D - not everyone is near to WIM (although I know Hotel21 has done a trip to WIM from somewhere north of Hadrian :o).

For those near enough to WIM, remember there will be a 'free' knowledge day in a few weeks, and if you're one of the lucky ones whos name comes out of the hat, will get the WIM treatment for free!

Nah, make a day out one Saturday, and go to WIM.  In the middle of the Chilterns, lots of nice walks etc nearby (within 10-15 miles).

I paid 75 quid with everything adjusted, its 30 for the check and 10 quid per adjustment but, I had free'd all the adjusters off first.

I was pleased with the work done by Hedley Tyres on the A339 just outside Greenham Common on the Basingstoke to Newbury Rd
Not quite Hants but close enough for Jazz!

I was speaking to a guy who said the place by Farnham station (in the station car park, practically) sorted out his Omega camber.

2nd hand information but might be worth a punt. :-/

Then again, it's 1/2 way to WIM.

Need to find a good one in hampshire.

I once spoke to MIcheldever tyres, just off the A303, who have a geo bay (super cheap tyres too!)  Spoke to him at length about omegas and the camber, he seemed to know what he was talking about.  Havent tried it yet but worth checking out.

Thanks for the more local tip to the midlands! I can't find anywhere in Birmingham that's good for more than just tracking. Too many want over a ton for starters!

It'll be good to journey back to the old Lufbra uni haunts too! oh and get the geometry set right after a lower arm swap with TImbuk soon!

Happy straight days :)

BMTR on Walsall Road Perry Barr do it, but its about £100. They did say they would do it for £75 for cash... no receipt!

I had mine done there when I first got the car. Wasn't very impressed TBH. He put it on the machine and adjusted the toe and just as I was leaving, he pointed out that the camber was excessive and that I'd probably get shoulder wear. I asked him why the hell he didn't adjust it and he said it was just inside the limits on the machine. ::)

If you go there make sure you specify that they adjust the camber to sensible levels regardless of whether it's in the green or not!

I have a little but, it wasn't that far out!

I need to let the tyres bed in a little (they are new) first before passing judgement.

Have you used BMTR? or has anyone else? I rang them once for tyre prices but they were well more than Tyres R Us!

I guess going locally would be better than spending £20 in petrol to get to Loughborough tho, as long as the job is done well!

Haven't used them yet, couple of little jobs to do first then I'll give them a try. Money is a problem at the moment.
Several other tyre places have said that they are the only people locally who can do the Omega properly.

Hi,
I can only add my recommendation to what Marks DTM has said.
On recommendation from someone on ABS forum, I used Fleetfit when I had to take my daughter to Loughborough University, and had geometry done on my motor and Michelins fitted.

In 50 yrs motoring !!! and doing my own repairs and maintenance, for the first time I felt that my car had the same care and attention as I give it.

John Sykes work is meticulous.

When the time ever comes that I can't do my own car work, I just hope I can find someone so conciencious down my way.
