Title: Aftermarket double din - Anyone recommend one that looks good?
Post by: squattingbeaver on 03 April 2012, 19:35:47
Hi Everyone

Its time to remove the original car stereo and get something that can play MP3 and also so I can hook up my Ipod. does anyone have any recommendations of ones that look good installed, and have the same colour illumination?

Any pictures of your installations would help.  my car is a Face lift MV6 with silver trim inside. I have looked at the Pioneer and kenwoods so far with multi coloured illumination that should be able to match the rest of the dash.

No, it has a wide range of 728 colour variations, so you can mess about to match the dash perfectly !!

Thanks for the info, was looking to spend a lot less than those, not interested in bluetooth(kit already in car) they do look nice and I know clarion is a quality brand.

I have had the wiring adapter and dash kit sat in the shed for about a year now. I am leaning towards the kenwood and I think I am gonna take the plunge with this one. It takes iPod/USB drive and multi colour illumination.

Will let you know how it goes and post a pic when done.

Kenwood is a good brand also.

Basically, stick to the well known brands and avoid the Chinese Tat !!

Update guys

Fitted the stereo and it all went well. wow they are in tight when removing the original, once the keys were locked in took a mixture of pulling and wobbling side to side to get it to slowly start moving. Then removing the cage was just as much fun. the plugs at the back are all fitted to the cage so that made it a little harder but with a little screw driver unclipped them from the cage and got everything out.

Next fitted the new cage and realised I needed a Aerial adapter(Halfords is 2 mins away so £5 later was back.) used the PC99 wiring connector and a PC99-Ken steering wheel adapter cable and all plugged in fine and worked well.

Then once I clipped it into the cage I remembered I had to swap the red and yellow power connectors round so got it out again and just swapped the bullets on the loom.

All working well and now I can plug in the Ipod or my prefered way just play the music off a pendrive.

Picture is below.
