what does easter mean to you?
coming from quite a religious (catholic) upbringing i fully understand one side of the coin, and being an observant chap, can also see the other
side, which is the commercial aspect, or the "great, four days off" school of thought.
As i have grown older though, and with the way society has changed in the last ten years as i have moved in to adulthood, my views have changed on religion
and in addition, my understanding of the situation the country is in has bore impact on this also.
My current view is that religion in general is so far removed from what it was upon its creation, that any real religious significance can only be drawn at a
personal level.
I think that the morals and values of most religions are that of how to live a good and generally acceptable life, and as time has gone by the religions have been
twisted in to a method of control of the masses,or as a way to drive hatred and further individual aims through violence.
To me the loss of the general populations subscription to at least one form of MODERATE religious teachings, combined with the general decline of morals, and lack of decent role models, has led to a vacuum
of moral values in the country, and that vacuum has been filled by the 15 minute of fame school of teaching.
for me i will be spending this easter trying to achieve some balance........enjoying the time off with my kids, but also trying to spend some time thinking about the religious aspects i was raised with, and the
morals that were imparted on me as a result.
If i am to believe that someone sacrificed themselves to a gruesome death in an attempt to save my soul, then it is not to much to ask of myself to make a small sacrifice each day to help someone else.
even something as simple as helping an old lady to the car with her shopping.
If everyone were to try and do this every day what sort of impact would it have on society..........maybe a move towards the return to the more selfless, help thy neighbour,
attitude that most of the population held 50 years ago?
i doubt it will ever actually happen as i firmly believe we are on the way to anarchy, and only a major and devestating incident will change it, but at this time of year, it cant help to think............

Meh, age old Pagan ritual taken over by the christianites when they realised just how strong pagan beliefs were (and still are). Like Xmas, harvest festival etc etc.

coming from quite a religious (catholic) upbringing.............
My Dad was brought up as a good left foooter, I watch him so I know when to stand or sit or kneel down at family 'occasions'. He was excomunicated my marrying my Mum who was a Methodist, and his Mum decided to NOT attend the wedding ..... ??? ??? My Aunty (my Dad's sister) lost her 14 yr old son to leukaemia and her faith went completely out of the window.
So much for an all careing, omnipotent 'being' ............................ :-X :-X :-X :-X
