Title: Cheers Guffer
Post by: Martian on 07 April 2012, 13:54:25
Matt,

I finally followed through fought the tinkers tooth & nail based on the advice you gave me at the hospital regarding my entitlement to DLA, and after 6 months of arguing the toss I finally got awarded the higher rate of mobility.

I now get an extra £35 per week, which isn't a great amount but will certainly make a difference when it comes to paying the bills at the end of the month.
I also qualify for free road tax according to the bumph that came with the paperwork, again it's not a vast amount on top but that's another £220 (or thereabouts) that I don't have to worry about finding in June when the tax is due again.

Even though I was told I didn't qualify back in the beginning (when I actually did), the sneaky tinkers still managed to avoid making  a back payment for what I was legally entitled to.

Still, I got there in the end and I'll just remain grateful for what I've got so far.

Cheers for that Matt, and try not to get killed before you get back for that pint  :y :y

I'm on it already Jim, as soon as I saw the paperwork for the free road tax I guessed I was automatically a "blue badge" holder by default  :y

I used to have quite strong (see opinionated) feelings with regard to people claiming disabiliity, incapacity, etc......but after what I have experienced first hand, my opinions have deviated from one medion to the next quite wildly.

My sister in law had cancer and mcmillan nurses said she was entitled to the higher rate and because she needed care she also received carers allowance....she had no problem getting it..however unfortunately she died within 3 months of getting it....god bless you Sheila.. :'(
