Hi all , my daughter has had a quote from the garage to replace a n/s inner driveshaft boot ...Im thinking i can do this for her but is it a simple job as ive never changed one .
Oh the garage quoted her £140 , looking into the price of the boot but they said £40 :-\
Its a 1.0 on a 53 plate , manual :)

Shouldn't be that difficult have you a cv splitter to put new boot over a garage should be hour labour and boot cost no more than £100 at best shop around try getting better price :y

have in the past, with success, carefully fitted split boots to CV joints. No dismantling necessary - just cut old boot and clips off, fit boot over joint by carefully "spreading" it, use rubber glue supplied to rejoin boot (needs care and cleanliness), refit supplied clips and jobs a good 'un.
Use these on big and small Rovers in the past. No subsequent issues and passed MOTs ok

Haven't used anything but a CV cone for years. With drive shaft/hub split, its a 10 min job.
One from Fleabay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-CORSA-CV-JOINT-BOOT-KIT-CONE-GAITER-CV-BOOTKIT-DRIVESHAFT-CONE-/130676982973?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e6cf484bd
or this, just need boot & a bit of silicone lube http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bailcast-CV-Boot-Fitting-Cone-Tool-DriveShaft-FC1-cv-cone-/330694326789
Wasn't a method I preferred until I tried it, wouldn'y do it any other way now. Find the 2 part boots don't last that long either, no matter how clean.
Good site http://slide-a-boot.com/default.aspx :y :y

Not sure exactly how that slider boot fitment works , if the cv joint does not need splitting then how does a fixed boot slide over :-\ and the cone thing :D
Do they have a split that needs re-joining and the cone is the template while you glue it ?
-
Drive shaft with CV splits from hub/disc. Cone goes over CV, slide new boot up and bingo!

If its an inner cv joint then disconnect the bottom ball joint, pop the drive shaft from the cv joint (requires good circlip pliers) and fit a good quality one.
Boots are 10-20 quid (even for genuine).

Hi all,
Sorry if I have this wrong but don't garages normally offer to simply replace the axel these days due to cost?
