Any advice and help please......my 2.2 omega air conditioning is never used not sure if it works up to spec and not realy bothered with it,so is it possible to remove it all...what would i have to remove and what alternative alternator belt could i use...would it be a problem with the rest of the heating system and would it be worth the effort to remove it....polite suggestions please lol....cheers.ray..

2woody it seems always performs an 'air-conectomy' to his cars .............. I can't really see the point myself - but each to their own.
I just open the window in my Astra .........its a/c doesn't work either & I'm not even looking as to why. ( I could make a good guess though ;))

Just get it re-gassed. It's lovely!!

Removing the aircon sounds like alot of hassle and potentially very messy if you ask me! ::) I thought that the aircon coolant is pretty nasty stuff? ??? Not sure though and I sure someone will put me right on that!! :-\
As Bixy said get it regassed and enjoy it, or as Andy said forget about it, open the window and enjoy the fresh air!!! :y

I removed my air condenser some time ago as the rad had fell to bits along the bottom edge ::) Bypassed the aircon pump with a non aircon aux belt .
Winding the windows down suits me .... OR having a magical sunroof that opens itself is handy but not when it rains ;D

When I finally get round to putting my "good" engine in (another 3L V6), all the aircon stuff is coming out, but then that's mainly because it's going on a strict diet - hoping to lose about 30Kg by going manual with 3.2 manifolds and removing anything from the engine bay that the car can live without!

that was the old CFC R12 refrigerant, but Omegas have always had ozone 'friendly' R134a :y

for me, it's more about getting rid of the 30+ kilos of lard that I'd never use even if it worked. It's a relatively simple process - you'd be surprised just how much you can liberate. Unfortunately on Omega B there isn't a no-aircon heater unit, so a complete aircon-ectomy isn't practicable. When I built the Carlton, I was able to select a heater unit without aircon to start with.
you'd need to liberate the compressor, radiator, receiver/drier and the under-bonnet pipework, and the pre-radiator fans, too.

must make a massive impact on performance & ecconomy ::) ::) ::) ::)

I was advised to keep the 2 fans at the front when i removed my air con, luckily i did as they provided extra cooling when i had overheating issues but i can see if the car is cooling properly then the pre radiator fans could be removed 8)

add to that the 30HP that it's consuming when working, you have quite an appreciable amount. At 60 mph, half of the power you're developing from the engine is used to power the aircon
