Title: Friday 13th: Water pump failure ................
Post by: I_want_an_Omega on 13 April 2012, 10:24:28
Hopefully this will be the sum of OOF bad luck for the day ................

Car suddenly started making a horrible noise on tickover this morning.

Whipped off the aux belt and diagnosed that the water pump was the culprit, lots of noise even when rotated by hand.

As car is needed at the moment it was off to Vx for a genuine part. Thank heavens for TC discount as the list price is £145.20 inc VAT.  :o. TC price was still £78.40 though.  :'(

So, it's pump change time this evening.

I replaced the pump when the cambelt was done in June 2010 - so although it's out of warranty I'd expect it to last longer than the 22 months and 6,300 miles. I've contacted the supplier who were helpful and have agreed that although it's out of warranty I can send the part back to them for "consideration". So, watch this space .......

Agreed, I'll hold fire naming the supplier until they have had a chance to consider my nicely worded letter which will be sent with the defective pump. I'll be asking for a refund stating that the poor quality item forced me to purchase a genuine GM part and coolant.

I'll happily share the outcome - but will wait until there is one. Hope that's ok?
