Title: 3.2 coolant temp
Post by: Shackeng on 13 April 2012, 20:06:24
I had planned to change the 'stat in the near future on the 3.2 Elite as cruising temp has always been about 80º since I bought it last year, (I've only clocked 3500m), however, on a 30 mile round trip today, the temp was 91º cruising, and 97º in traffic. I find it hard to believe that the 'stat has suddenly started closing properly, and am more inclined to think it may need a proper coolant flush.

Any thoughts?

To be honest, I'd still suspect the stat. Ultimately its still running cool.

Could flush it first, but wasting £14 of coolant...

If the coolant system was full of junk then it'd more likely be overheating due to the system not working efficiently.

I've found VX stats typically last about 7-8 years before they start playing up and not closing fully.

Thanks guys, I'll monitor it for a week or two, but I am inclined to think that the system may require a flush as well as a stat, which can be done together, flush before stat. It may just be coincidence that the cruise temp is just about correct at present, due to open stat being counteracted by poor cooling. :y

mine was gone for ages, I guess they fail half open so cool on motorway with lots of air then hot in traffic when it can't open fully.
