Title: New Job Offer!!!!
Post by: VX1 on 10 March 2008, 13:37:59
Well went for the interview today over in Newbury to a motor factors (who will remain nameless for now) and had a good chat with the guy, who I do know, and he told me about the job. Sounds great me thinks and accepted the offer. The pay is £1500 more than what I am getting now. Now the thing I have to do now is tell my manager that I have been offered this job but without letting him know I went today. I have been with Euro car parts fo 5 months and hate letting people down. How do I tell him........
I do have to let the other employer know by tomorrow evening either way. With this new job I get to run the day to day aspects inc driver's and basically run the branch. With the job with Euro I am on the counter serving Trade and Retail customer's (which don't usually start coming in until around 10.30/11.00 am, We open at 8am) so I get considerably bored until this time. The other job is more challenging and sort of busy from the time of getting in.

AWhat do I tell him? Any help?

you could say that you know the guy and he phoned you last night with the job offer, and while you have enjoyed working for/with him ,this is too good to turn down but you want to leave on good terms.

be honest, tell him you have had another offer, see what your current boss has to say.

you never know it could be that he has plans for you, use this as a time to discuss your future, that is if you want to.

sounds a bit like you have made your mind up, if you have then i would still be honest, that way if things don't work out then you haven't burnt your bridges  ;)

Well done Paul - should change your name to Omega Itchy Feet..

I wouldn't say anything at all about when you went for the interview (I take it you pulled a sickie or something like that..)   Just don't bring it up and I doubt he will ask.   You could easily have done it in the evening/weekend/by phone etc.   Keep it as close to the truth as possible then there is less chance of you being caught out.

But as someone else said, be friendly about it as you never know what might happen in the future.

Now them, about the OOF discount.... ;D

No just booked the day off to go. But I did booke the day off last week so I could go. Well looks like I need to tell him but if the question arises I will tell him that I got a phone call over the weekend and was offered the job and it has nothing to do with why I was off today. Thanks for the advise guys much appreciated.

If you booked the day off then it's all above board. Up to you what you do on your days off. You weren't looking for a job in company time so, although it feels awkward, you are in the right.

I think you've just got to tell him that you've been offered a job, and explain, like you have to us, what attracts you to it over the current job. Explain that it's not just money, but satisfaction, and he should understand. Beware they he may promise the earth to keep you, and may not be able to deliver what he's promised a few months down the line, so if you've made your decision, don't let him change your mind.

.. and try to keep your side amicable, as said, even if he reacts badly. Most industries are small worlds and it's surprising who you might come across further downt he career path. :o

All the best in the new job. :y

Well day 3 and all went well again. Met the bosses again today had a good chat with them which went well. Once I have got the jist of everything in the Newbury branch I will be transfered to Reading when the branch is due to open there (even better result.  Cause I know the area in Reading well they have given me the responsiblility of sorting out new customers for them to get on board. Any way after tomorrow (friday) I become the Branch supervisor (Branch Manager) of Newbury and left to run the place  :y :y after all thats what I am bieng trained for.
