Post by: big mel on 22 April 2012, 16:25:11
osbourne is putting 3. pence duty on fuel. that means that at 4.5 liters to a gallon it works out at 13.5p a gallon, robbing b--sterds

The chancellor looks to be on a collision course with motoring groups after he failed to drop plans to introduce a 3p a litre petrol price increase set to hit forecourts in August.

3p per litre equates to 13.5p for 4.5 litres or approx 1 gallon (4.54 lits).

"Might want to re-check sums on that  ;D"

Close enough approximation ;)

what about the VAT - haven't you forgotten that ?

3p per litre = 13.65 per gallon

3p + VAT = almost 20p per gallon

that's tax for you

if it was £10 a gallon you would pay it and they know it,the only way to do somat about it is for EVERYONE to stop buying fuel and that will never happen but then its the same as i say about ciggys...if everyone said aye the govt is right this smoking is bad for you and stopped you would be paying £12.43 a pint and a warm greggs pasty would cost £34.99

The batch I've got fermenting in the garage cost me about 30 odd p/Pint plus a bit of leccy to boil it. It's proper beer, too, not lager recycled.

I have a slightly connected plan concerning home production of f*rt gas for the LPG Omega but not sure the production volumes are sufficient yet (mrs KW disagrees).  ::)

Still 70p in East London, so guessing a 3p rise is not so bad if it happens on LPG.

Oh it's just an accumulator card Malthurst Roman bp franchises do for LPG. 1p a litre off the fore court price on your first visit, 2p off on your second visit etc down to 10p off on your tenth visit. Gives an average of 5p off basically.

Yep Asda down too. As is the previously mentioned LPG price from 83.9 about a fortnight ago. And 84.9 a fortnight before that, or something like.

Unleaded dropping back in price will just narrow the differential between it and LPG back to what it was a while ago and therefore making LPG a little less worthwhile than it has been recently.LPG prices seem to have remained constant around here recently even though petrol has risen.
Mine costs 21ppm on LPG (including petrol used, which often seems to get ignored in running cost calcs). Assuming I would get 23mpg on petrol,at an average of say 137ppl,running cost on petrol would be around 27ppm. So a saving of 6ppm,or just over 20%.Worthwhile,but a very long way from the "less than half price" claim thats made by everyone who sells an LPG car on fleabay.
No matter. From next week, the Omega will be an occasional use car. something to spend more time tinkering with than driving.  ::)

The price differential will return to what it is now, but it may take 6 weeks or so ;) Well... It always has before ::)

Fortunately we don't give the wild "half the price" advice here and say it generally cuts running costs by a third (or 9-10p per mile) based on some very detailed calculations by Entwood and some not so detailed ones by myself and others ;D

As Albs said, I've not seen anyone mention in their calcs, how much petrol they use to start and until the LPG cuts in.......unless you all can force a cold start on LPG  :-\ , which i had to do for a few days in my 2.2 when the petrol fuel pump packed up.....

Including the petrol costs involved in starting, and the odd occasions I commit the ultimate sin and run out of LPG, my savings fluctuate between 8 and 9p a mile, hovering currently around 20ppm to run.

Around here, LPG prices are definitely easing, around 75.9p (cheapest) to 81.9p(always most expensive) before discounts/loyalty rewards/bank cashback.
