Anyone bothered with the outcome?
I am. I think the Socialists if they get in will be wanting to water down the austerity measures. The Dutch are having problems making their austerity measures stick. The Spanish are talking a great talk but as I have said previously, anyone can say we will introduce austerity. Making it stick is something completely different. The Spanish health service currently owes 8 billion euros for medicines bought but not paid for. Average invoice time is 18 to 26 months............. I see Danny Alexander is asking the public sector to make some more savings as a buffer against more Eurozone problems.
Oh and it was interesting that out of the high turnout one in three didn't vote for the two main parties!!

Quite interesting who ended up in 3rd place :-\ It makes me wonder how well the other parties will do in our local elections.

I gave up on French politics after they kicked Ségolène Royal into the gutter - the dirty bastids. >:( >:(
Of the present incumbent I would be tempted to say ‘anyone but him’, however I'm cautioned by history and am forced to recall what happened after those fateful words were uttered about Anthony Blair, Gordon Brown - and, by extension, New Labour.
Rather like being asked to choose between a kick in the 'nads or a slap across the chops with an 11 day old fish - neither option (nor indeed any of the candidates on offer) is particularly appealing.

The whole world is changing at a frightening pace, politically, financially and ethically. I'm afraid it's not changing for the better :(

Problem is, we don't appear to be attracting suitable candidates into politics, so it's hardly surprising that whoever gets voted in is as much use as a chocolate kettle.
Seems the French are in the same boat as we are. Still, Sarkozy getting a poke in the eye would offer some satisfaction, if only because it would leave Merkel flailing around looking for an ally next time it's handout time for Greece/Italy/Spain. ;D
