My grandad has a 1.4 8 valve Ford Escort Van - 1998 's' plate. It's a clever bit of kit, with a ramp and a winch, to carry my grandma's disabled buggy.
His clutch has started slipping - badly. The rocker cover gasket is piddling oil out, and I reckon it's contaminated the clutch, personally.
It's the 1.4 CVH engine.
What are the clutches like to do, on these?
Engine totally out job - or just driveshafts and box out?
If anyone has any knowledge, I'd welcome it :y
Many thanks,
James

PS, I'm also going to do the timing belt kit and water pump for him, but he doesn't know that yet :y
-
Easier to work on than a mig,but 1st thing to do is find out if the wire mesh in cam cover is blocked,as this causes pressure and then cam gaskets leak, clutch is box out job, timing belt is also easy aswell :y

Yep, should be really straightforward to work on after an Omega. Usual deal, though. Check breathers are clear or it'll leak again.

Not to bad a job to do, not as easy as the clutch and cambelt on an omega due to access challenges
horrible under powered engines though.

I've done a few clutch changes on the CVH range and I'd say it's a fairly straightforward job James.
Working on axle stands I've managed all of them inside of a day on my own, and the only time I needed help was when putting the box back in (fat friend & big lump of wood used as pry bar always works).
If you can get it up in the air on a 2 poster then you can cheat and just spin the box on the driveshafts and let it hang while you swap the clutch out which greatly speeds the job up (circa 1 hour if you have all the right tools to hand).

That's the way I do them, saves a lot of time and gearbox oil every where :y

Sadly, we only have a 4 poster lift, which the car drives stright on. I don't think we have a jacking beam for it, so don't think we could do it this way? :-\

While you're at it, pop a Zetec in :y

Crikey, is that a 3 part kit??
This is a 1998 model, so probably a later one unfortunately.
Thanks though mate!
