Earlier gauge's max temperature was 80 C, usually less.
I replaced old waterpump ( with plastic wings ) to new with metal wings.
and thermostat marked 80 C . Viscofan's ballbearing was stuck in " always on position " so it is removed until i get new...
Now gauge shows 95 C in normal drive , is this normal temp without visco ? seems high but I am used to see less than 80 C readings ;D

95'C is the correct temp for the TD, should be mid way on the gauge. :y I recently changed my 'stat which brought it up from 85' to 95'. :y

Does viscofan lower the temperature when/if fitted ??

Mine runs at about 85, but I know it reads two degrees low. Viscous fan doesn't do a lot, it will run quite happily without. Temp is controlled by the thermostat, fan makes no difference to the actual running temp.

It makes plenty of noise! Depends on type of use, towing in warm weather may require it, but if your cooling system is in good shape, in the UK it is generally unnecessary. :y

Our beauty runs constantly at around the 95/96 mark - confirmed as spot-on at Newent by "Mr Hotel 21" with a 'live' Tech2 chat.
It has a meticulously well-maintained cooling system:
Genuine (friggin' expensive) Vx 'stat, metal-impellored water pump and GM 'red stuff' anti-freeze with viscous fan fitted.
Even with our caravan in tow on a blazing hot day, the gauge never wavers beyond the 97 mark on da gauge, so have no worries.
Accordingly, your fuel consumption should also improve! :y
