was driving up the road yesterday, seen wile smoke from exhaust in my rearview then temp hand shot up. so stopped car straight away, opened bonnet and got myself a nice wee sauna going :-\
anyway got car home after bout 2 hours (this only happened 4 mile from my house) got a good look round and seen that the pipe running from the HBV into the engine had a inch gash in it (is this common) got car a stripped back today and replaced pipe, coolent etc everything seems ok but what are chances i havent done the engine any damage,
i let the car cool down etc before putting any water in her but i fear damage my have been done.

Try it and see mate ;)
If its the "curly" pipe from HBV to coolant bridge then I've had one go on the Estate (pinholed at bottom and really hard to spot.

yep same one but mine was a gash not a pinhole, spotted it straight away :)
took car for a good wee run there and temp didnt go over about 92 but seems to be idleing a bit strange, bouncing between 200 and 600 rpm

Try cleaning ICV mate - check first it's fully inserted into plenum mate.
If ok check for air leaks :y
