Hi guys can someone point me in the right direction.Got home tonight and when i change from park to drive to reverse.I get what i can only describe as a clunking from the auto gearbox, also the car seems to lurch back and forth. When i change to D,P,R and also when driving the gears don't seem to change smoothly up or down. Please excuse me if this has been covered before, but i just want to find out what it is and get one of the OOF mechanics on it.Thanks Dean :) :y

As said you'll need to check the fluid level, it'll probably be low, and will probably need changing anyway as it probably hasnt been done in life of car.
Also one thing I've noticed which might or might not be related to your problem, is that on autos, if your handbrake isn't working as well as it could be, the car 'settles' onto the park peg, then when you move it out of park, it makes a thud noise as the park peg is released.

Before messing with fluid, check that the thrust washer is intact, else you'l waste your time and money ;)

Service auto box ATF. Exactly the same as in my old 2.5. All was well after. ;)

Well this would only account for one of your symptoms.
probably not related but something I've noticed, and it helps to rule things out. If you're sat in traffic, in drive holding it lightly on the foot brake, or an inefficient handbrake as you know you're about to set off, and happen to turn the climate control on, this will cause the engine to surge for a second or so and then settle again. Whilst in drive, with light brake pressure applied this can obviously cause the car to surge a bit.
