Evening from the wasted nords.
As my topic sayes the engine stops while driveing, then I stop and and turn the ingnition and car starts idiling fine, as soon i start driving afther a while i feel the enginge looses power and pump the gass more and it goes up in rpm again but wont work all the time and stops again.
This isnt happening all the time and I can run many miles before this happens again. Had some of this problems before and then it was error codes with the cam sensor, so I installed new cam sensor, belt etc.
But have noe codes stored now. :-[
There was a happening a few weeks ago where the car wouldnt start and there was a rappidly blinking in the engine light so I plugged in the code reader and woila, car starts and no codes stored. ??? My guess here was that the immobilizer hung, but cant know for shure.
So im at a loss here and would be glad for some pointers where to look, its so fustrating that this problem is hard to find. I could change a part and the problem could stil be there afther weeks.

i had a cavalier with the same engine in it.x20xev 16v ..new crankshaft sensor sorted it,but i had the same symptoms as you for about 2 months before the engine management light came on and stored a code...hth... :)

Im very found of this engine, incredibly strong. Have 380k mileage now and 200k is in my ownership. :)
To the problem , I left out that it won't ignite at all after it dies and I have to wait for a while before it starts. So could it be fuel related or the immobiliser playing pranks with me.
I dont think it is the fuel filter but I have a new one, so I could just change it for the luck sake. The fuel pump is humming fine. It dosent cough or anything, its run fine or not running at all.
So it needs to learn the new fault before code is stored? :P

check the crank cable if not fitted back propper cable heats up on the exhaust manifiold and cuts engine out.

Thanks for the pointer :), the cable was actualy touching the manifoild and not fitted propperly.. But it didnt seem broken or melted in any way. Think i should change the cable?

melts the wires inside the heat sheild, can be fixed if you cut down the wire heat shield (were the wire was touching manifold), and tape them up then make sure its fixed way from the manifold. :y
