Stone chip :-\
Mine cracked on drivers side bottom corner .

Bugger, although your insurance will cover that ;)

I've just had the same problem, a nice crack zigzagging from the bottom corner passenger side and big enough to fail the MOT! :'(
So after discovering that I don't have windscreen cover (Doh!!) I started phoning round.....
I phoned Autoglass and they said £750 :o When I had stopped laughing/crying the lady said she'd try and find a better price and came back with £620 ::) This time I said that it would have to be a least half that before I'd even think about it!! >:( She came back with £395, and that was the absolute lowest, I said cheerio.... ::)
After abit more phoning round I had it done for £132 inc VAT which I thought was pretty reasonable :y
I wonder how many little old ladies Autoglass snare with their high prices >:(

Mine cracked on the DTi a while back from the drivers side lower corner, personally I think it might have had something to do with dropping the trolley jack a bit quick once.

Thats a bargain , where did you get that fitted :)

If it's replaced try and see if there is any rust bubbling up in the metal frame when the screen is out, might be the cause, ESP if there's no chip evident.
It can stress the glass, and any jolt can crack it.

It was Phoenix Windscreens in Exeter and yes, I was pleased with the price and the job! :y
Autowindscreens were the next cheapest at £150 ish and I think they're national... ???

Who on earth doesn't include windscreen cover?
Just so I know who NOT to insure with :o :o

Think it was auto glass that replaced mine , inside edges where the glass fits were corroded so he let me rub it all down and rust treated it ...may have been the cause of the crack :-\

You should see the crack on mine.
It started with several lines which were 2 inches long.
Now it spread all the way to the edge of the car.
Luckily it is all on the lower black part of the glass so barely visible.
Still waiting for the replacement glass
