 :( Yep.

There was petition a couple of years ago on an official HM Govt. site that ensured issues would be raised in Parliament if a certain number of signatures were obtained. The figure was reached and it was raised, and sweet FA came of it !!  >:(

Stuff 'em I say. :P
I can't really afford to drive, or smoke for that matter, yet I choose to pay extra for super unleaded and Embassy ciggies, if they think they need my money that badly then who am I to complain...

As it costs nothing to sign and if it keeps coming up time after time to be debated, they will have to take notice and eventualy see that the normal person on the street is not happy. Keith B

No they won't. They know we're not happy.

Well... Those of us on LPG are slightly less unhappy, put it that way. ;)

FFUK aren't on about a proper No 10 petition, this is just about that useless prat QW, who, lets face it, really needs to make his own mind up, as he has previously said that high fuel prices is the way to force people to electric, and that electric is the (near) future.

With a proper No10 petition, the answer was no, so how can an ex-celebrity, desperate to raise his own profile, help?

Ultimately, if they did reduce fuel tax, they have to raise the money another way ;). Remember, our deficit is much higher than Greece, Spain, Portugal or Italy.

Wow so much negativity. Could well be hopeless, Lets hope those same people don't feel they have the right to moan the next time the government slaps on price rise.  ::) ::)

Yes, an important point often overlooked by those concentrating too much on the (frighteningly) exorbitant cost of road fuel.

It would seem to be a sad fact that it's the motorists, smokers and drinkers of this country who are, by contributing a fair old whack to the Treasury in these taxes, doing more than their fair share to keep the lights on.

How much blood is left in the stone however?

Realism. Moan all we like, the economic parameters are set. No petition will ever change that.

Its not even an official government petition, so it will make absolutely & totally zero impact. 100's of these have done the rounds over the past decade, they do sod all!

A bigger concern is the stranglehold that supermarkets have over fuel. They are selling at very very low margins which is forcing independent garages out of business. The last figure I saw was 300 a year for the UK.

One day it will only be supermarkets selling fuel, then they will be able to jack the price UP (like fruit and veg) due to their monopoly and market share.

Not a problem in heavily populated areas perhaps but for those living in a rural area a real problem. My nearest filling stations are 5 miles, 20 miles and 15 miles away. Nearest supermarket filling stations are 40 and 45 miles away.

So why isn't the unfair competition quango investigating and stamping on the supermarkets??

Quite right too V, the tendency for people to ignore local traders in favour of the supermarkets has partly been responsible for laying waste to many a high street right across the country.

I will always support local traders first and foremost.
