Hi all has anyone heard about a change in the law regarding tow ropes? I heard someone say that only bars are allowed now is this right or is it bull :-\

i know there was something about this coming in to effect, but ive still seen towropes for sale in shops

As Martin says. Ropes are legal to use on the road. But you can only use a rope to tow a car off the m/way using the next juction ie you can use rope to tow a cat ON to a m/way. :y :y
Rigid bars are much better though if you can beg or borrow one. :y :y

disregarding the moggie, that doesn't make sense! Are you saying you can tow a car OFF a motorway but not onto a motorway using rope.??

Yep... Officially a rope is only for Emergency use and towing to a place of safety. Therefore you can tow a car off of the motorway at the next junction with a rope but cannot join a motorway with a car on a rope :y
Personally, rigid bar or better only unless it is an emergency ;)

Well done Varche ............. you spotted my deliberate mistake (can't watch snooker & forum at the same time ::))
Yes I am. If a car breaks down on the motorway you're allowed to use a rope to tow it to the next junction but you can't decide to join a motorway towing a car using a rope.

Wonder how many people have had bumps while towing ? easy to forget the brakes are pretty much U/S once the engine isn't running .
