Just wondered while I have got my coolant drained from the system is there anything to maintain on the radiator drain - washer/seals etc - is it possible? Also, when tightening the drain thumb screw is finger tight sufficient? :y

I usually tighten it to finger tight + a nip :y :y :y
The O rings will be OK as long as they don't show signs of being perished.

I take it you can remove the drain screw then to inspect the o-ring seals?

You can. Unscrew it and it'll get to the end of the thread and feel loose, just a case of pulling it out then.

Main dealer, couple of quid for new plug with O rings. Part #93194704

I went that route and the new one leaked!
Looking carefully the new one (black in colour and apparently superceding old red one) is slightly different from the red in terms of o-ring spacing - solution fit new o-rings from black one to red one - result no leaks :y

Cheers for the info. I've just ordered a new one today (only £1-83 + VAT from the stealers) - at point of ordering he said the part had been superseded, hence the difference. I will swap the seals over. :y

Second that! Did mine a little while ago, leaked more with the new plug in, swapped the new O-rings to the old plug and job done!
It was just £2.15 iirc but that's bl**dy expensive O-rings if you ask me.
I would've just fitted normal one in but the VX rings have graphite or something in them....

Looking at the photo of the drain cock in this thread is one of the seals out of it position? i.e. not in the groove - funny thing was when I removed mine it was exactly like the one in the photo but would like to know what the correct seal position should be :y

and when compared with Abiton's picture, it does appear that my O rings isn't fitted correctly. Never noticed that before. There's a new one in my car, & I've never touched the O rings in that, so if they're wrong it's GM's fault. ;D ;D

Thanks for the clarification on that Abiton much appreciated :y and like Andy B's picture mine was the same when I removed it, but it didn't seem right that one of the 'o' rings was free to move and logic says it must be out of position - as it was, the drain cock would be relying on just one 'o' ring to make a seal. Well worth checking this during a coolant change - implications of the drain cock failing :o
