Ha Ha yes it's abit like a Triffid Opti  ;D  It first appeared in the autumn and until a couple of weeks ago it was half the size, and just had the dark green leaves at the bottom.  With all the rain it's suddenly shot up!!  :o  Looks like it might flower so I'll leave it and see what happens!  :)

If it moves .........and eats human flesh, then it's probably a triffid. Don't go in the garden after dark is my advice. :)

I know what it is but can't remember what it is called.... :-[ :-[ Had a good few of them in my garden in Hertford, but it spreads easily hence why some people call it a weed. Anything can be a weed, the wrong plant in the wrong place is a weed, whatever it is...... :D :D  It has a generic name, which when you look in the books a different plant is shown iirc In late summer you will hear little 'crack' sort of noises which is the plant throwing out it's seeds.............if I stop thinking about it I may remember it name... ::) ::)

Euphorbia-Lathyris.... also known as The Mole Plant as Taxi Driver said.  :y

They're called The Mole Plant as they're believed to repel moles.  Opti, you were moaning about your moles a while back, so I'll send you some seeds when they come out later!!  ;)

Damn you beat me to it! ;D I'd sent the picture to my mum (a fairly keen gardener) and she just called saying she'd been through all her books and couldn't find it.. so we chatted and I googled and was all excited to have been able to solve the mystery..

..and you've only gone and done it already.  :P ;D
