Posted up earlier about aux belt removal as I have an engine speed squeak coming from front low centre of engine. 2.5 MFL. Squeak is there from tickover up to 1k revs then goes. Not loud but annoying , it's difficult to hear when bonnet is closed.
Am leaning towards water pump :-\ :-\ :-\
Any way been suggested an egg cup full of brake fluid in the coolant :o :o :o :o
Anyone got any thoughts on this or any other remedy. :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
VX waterpump fitted with cambelt 25k ago
TIA Al :y

lol, keep it closed.
could be just belt noise, could be air con compressor.
tbh, wouldnt have thought it waterpump.

Jon . . I drive with the bonnet closed most of the time ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D But the squeak definitley seems to be coming from low centre of engine . . made up a cardboard tube to listen to specific areas and seems louder in the centre by the water pump & crankshaft pulley. quiet over PAS & air con side & also quiet over alternator & tensioner side
Still not had anyone comment on the brake fluid in the coolant remedy ::) ::)

Short term solution (possibly)

The only thing you want in your coolant system is a 50/50 mix of longlife antifreeze and water...

Thats my opinion as well James :y :y. . . but thought I'd post the brake fluid suggestion to get some opinions of that as never heard of that one before :o :o :o

may be a silly question but is the belt on in the right direction. mark mentions on the dvd that wrong way installation can cause howling?
just a thought :)

It was an Oof member :y :y :y :y
Going to have the Aux belt off on Saturday to see if I can pin point which pulley (if any ) is the culprit . .
Will keep the brake fluid remedy "up my sleeve " for the time being ;) ;) ;)

Whilst you're there you could do the regrease tensioner thing.
Took mine off and it sounds soooo gritty so going to repack it before i pop it back on :)

It must be old, my Dad told me about it many years ago, but not something I've had experience of. :y :y

Update: after removing aux belt . . ran the engine for 1 minute . . . squeak gone ;) ;) ;)
All pulleys seemed fine when turned by hand . so repacked tensioner with grease & replaced & tensioned belt.
Happy . . all quiet now ;) ;) ;)
Thanks for all the input on this one guys . . . now seems sorted .
Will save the"egg cup full of brake fluid in the coolant" idea for another day ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
regards, Al :y

Glad you got it sorted Al - thought it was probably tensioner bearings as my PM ;)
