Title: An automotive legend has passed..
Post by: aaronjb on 11 May 2012, 21:40:08
Carroll Shelby passed yesterday, in the 50th anniversary year of arguably his most iconic creation.

Very sad.

(Feel free to move to Gen Diss. if this isn't car related enough..)

In memoriam here, for now - http://shelbyautos.com/

I watched an episode of Chasing Classic Cars on Thursday where Wayne Carrini was selling a '65 Cobra with racing provenance at auction and much to his surprise on to the set  walked Shelby himself to endorse the provenance of the car . Carrini's face lit up like a 100 w bulb when he heard Shelby say in his southern drawl " you better buy this one ,cause I wont be making anymore ....."  8)
A true legend .

Started racing with a 32 Ford on the dragstrips.

Which is true - he didn't .. but they (Shelby Auto, that is) did keep pumping out 'continuation' cars, which are actually just bought in kits from the likes of Kirkham/Contemporary (I forget which) in the US or Superformance in South Africa but given a CSX frame number. Nothing like diluting the vehicular gene pool, eh.. ;)

Still a legend, even given his latter penchant for litigating people out of existence, and a sad passing.
