Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 12 May 2012, 13:22:15
This is an amazing discovery, and coming soon after the crated Spitfires in Burma.  It makes you wonder what else is out there waiting to be found!!  :)

Reminds me a little of the film Close encounters of the third kind. I believe it was an ocean going vessel that mysteriously turned up the film........but the cause was the same same. ALIENS. :)

A very interesting find indeed. 8)

He rigged a parachute as an awning and removed the aircraft's radio and batteries but then apparently walked off into the desert in search of help

How very poignant; when one begins to think about this, it puts the finding of such remains onto an entirely different level. :(

i wonder who says it was the wrong thing to walk? with riigging a awning
sounds like he had waited for a few days and no one turned up to rescue him
if he had run out of water[yes you might be able to get a small amount from the condensation on the metal] you getting weaker from heat, lack of food, water, you scared,no ones come
so you have 2 options
stay do nothing and die, or walk you might find help or you might die in the dessert
great choices.

Imagine how many British and German aircraft are laying on the bottom of the Channel.
Probably rotted away to nothing now though.

Seen a few Heinkel 111's a Dornier 17 & a Spit on imaging sonar in the North Sea off the Tees & Wear Estuaries that appeared very well intact & preserved close to the Ekofisk Oil Pipeline, but that was 20+ years ago now :-\

How in god's name has it never been discovered before now, especially if it's that close to a smuggling route?
