Title: Old tools
Post by: Bacon Butty Man on 05 April 2008, 16:36:16
just got back from a car boot sale, i have been extending my tool kit lately and have just picked up a load of tools in an old tool chest for £10, The chest is beyond repair i think but will look at that tomorrow, the sockets n ratchets were  al little rusty as i think they have been left in a damp garage, i lovingly put each an every item in the vise and wire brushed them and what a suprise, they came up nice and even better they are mostly snap-on  :D, its a full set exept a 10 mm extended socket,  the rust turned out to be very surface/stain like, its all come up like new.  :) :)
even came with a full set of snap-on ratchets lol, i was going to invest in a set of halfords pro tools, no need now.
 ;D

just tried all the ratchets and spot on, i thought that maybe they would slip under pressure, i have a bolt that is rusted in to a piece of angle iron that i could not remove, broke 2 cheepy ratchets n stripped many 10mm sockets trying, i though hmm, test it on this bugger, the mid size one, (can never remember the correct sizes of the ratchets) with a little heavy ho shifted the bolt. so i think i can safely say all is well with bbm's snap-on tools  :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D :) :) :) :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :exclamation :exclamation

looks like the tool chest may just need a good oiling n clean, the drawers open well enough, the casters are ceased but sprayed with penetrating oil n see how they are iin the morning :y

if its some of the older Snap on stuff then it was/is very well made, that was back in the day when they gave a geniune lifetime warranty

you got a serious bargain, i'll tell you what, i'll give you £20 for the lot, you've doubled your money, and that's not a bad profit  :y

Nice one Mr. Baconbuttyman,

Now that is what boot sales are all about.
Any other "mega" bargains been found by anyone?

Heres one to start.  Friend of mine found a non working Vox AC 30  guitar amplifier. Original 1964.  seller did not know of it's worth. Jim knocked him down from 20 quid to 18.  Put it in for repair at a cost of £25    it was one capacitor blown. Is now valued at £1500 -£2000+.

Good price... I'm determined to have a sort out of my tools because I've got 2 virtually complete sets! It's not all Snap-On but all quite good stuff.

Now I don't need a set in a van for breakdowns and a set in a workshop for day to day use I must have a thinning session!!

 :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

As a seasoned boot fair bargain hunter all I can say is I am not worthy, cleaned & oiled up that set would make 60 -70 quid on E Bay :-?
