Since I've replaced mine, I've got the old one kicking about. Short of hurling it at passers-by and undesirable neighbours... is it worth stripping it down and freshening it up?
If so, is it DIYable, or a job for someone with hands less oafish than mine?

I did think about doing the same to mine that i have just replaced and then decided that they are not to expensive to buy a recon unit and they last for years....I would get peed off with it lying around in my shed and moving it around all the time,so i binned it. :y

You can get motors rewound, brushes/commutator and the solenoid replaced - which is all they've done when you buy a refurbished unit.. but you'll probably be paying almost as much as a refurbed unit anyway. If you can find somewhere that does them on exchange basis they might buy it off you, perhaps?
Either that or my vote is for throwing it at any unruly neighbours. In fact, can I borrow it? It'll only come back slightly dented... ;D

What's up with it? If it's the solenoid it may be just a case of cleaning up the contacts. If it's the motor it might just need brushes. I have stripped down several for old obscure cars, but never done an Omega one because they are readily available and cheap second hand
