Title: Cannister Type Oil Filter.
Post by: Mikes1670 on 13 May 2012, 18:13:08
Removed the housing for the cannister/cartridge type oil filter to access oil cooler pipes connections. I now need to re-fit but couldn't find a torque value for the cannister type oil filter housing - Anyone know what it should be? ???

IIRC should be 25Nm, normally stamped on the lid

The lid is stamped with 15Nm but I need the torque value for the cannister housing itself. :y

Tight but not rediculously so, just don't swing off your spanner. Isn't it going into a cast block  :-\ so unless you really swing off it you're unlikely to strip anything.  :y

I think I just found the answer - on the maintenance guides to convert from cartridge type oil filter to screw-on filter it states a filter housing torque value of 45Nm - sounds about right to me unless anyone knows different I think I'll go with that :)

Canister to block 45 Nm, lid to canister 15Nm  :y

Canister has 12mm in-hex bolt through and a rubber seal between block and canister. Lid has a o-ring which comes with new filter, lid opens with 24mm wrench. For tightening you can also use the 3/8" square in the lid, not much room to get torque wrench with socket on...  :y

Not really recommended, the lid has a habit of splitting if you do, later lids have had the square removed.  :y

For tightening to 15Nm I can not see any problems to use the square...   :-\

Agreed, but considering the torque that some of these oil cannisters have been tightened to ............. I think the problem is when they're way over tight & some one tries to undo it using the square.  :y
