Title: 2.2 petro auto - EGR probem and gearbox breather ?

Need a bit of help/confirmation

2 problems i need a little help with

Car threw up an engine check light, on the diagnostics it showed EGR valve , so i'm guessing it needs cleaning ? is this a common issue (i did a search but could not conclude anything)

Second problem, which i discovered when looking at the egr valve, there appears to be a breather off the top of the auto box, i found it resting on the exhaust manifold burnt through ! I guess this isn't right but i cant see where it should connect to.

can somebody help me please with some answers ?

breather pipe for auto box does not connect to anything but the opened end of pipe sits up in the engine bay,but away from any heat source. ;)
you may need to repair or replace breather pipe. HTH :y

not sure about egr valve but maybe worth cleaning it,clear code,and see what happens. ;)
