Just spotted this...
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1153907133
For those of you that don't know, Mtek Performance is a company that specialises in performance mods, and I know a few people here already have chips supplied by them.
Looks like he's running a deal, similar to that he used to on 'other' forums.
:D

I'm interested in one of these myself... ...very tempting...
Anyone had one care to comment?
-
Laidback66 had one and it was very good......got to say, I also am tempted!
-
As well as increased drivability, I am interested in increases to mpg whilst stuck at 50mph (on a good day) to/from work...
-
Nothing for a 3.2 though! Ho-hum!! ::)

3.2 is flash based, and needs ecu programmer to do it...
-
How do you tell if your car is suitable or not :-/
-
Send a PM to the guy, he will be able to tell you :)
-
theboy,
they'd be improved upon ;)
STMO123,
you'd need to look at your ecu and give me the numbers off it.
if it mentions 2.6.1 or 2.8.1 then it'l be ok...

i was looking at this earlier, there are a couple of queries/resevations
the insurance, i know that some people don't declare chips as a mod but surely the insurance company is going to want to know.
Relaibility, fitting a component that will change the way the car drives/behaves/performs will surely also affect the longevity of the engine as well.
fitting, has anyine ever fitted a chip? is it just 'plug and play'
finally what sort of improvements (on a general basis) can you expect to see from something like this?
I'm interested, i would just like those little niggles put to the back of my mind where they belong
-
Jay,
legally yes you are meant to tell your insurance company.
Reliability will not be affected. the car will be better to drive, more responsive, better on fuel when driven sensibly. It will not affect the longetivity of any engine component. that is purely down to how you look after it yourself, chipped or unchipped.
The chip takes approx 10 mins to fit. you simply lever out the original one and replace it with the new one.
you will get better performance, improved fuel economy, better pick up.. i dont see a negative, except that you're going to want to give your car full beans alot LOL
I hope this helps.
any further question, please ask.

Dave and Marks DTM have given praise here, good enough for me put me down provisionally based upon....
A check tonight re compatability when i get home .....
Do we have any sort of differences in performance and fuel consumption to be able to measure differences?
:)
-
Compared to my brothers none chipped 3.0 Omega, i get at least 5mpg better round town and better performance.

and does it feel quicker if so from start or mid range?
-
bit of both.
-
sounds good to me, will check compatibility when i get home ;)
-
if yours is a 3.0 then i'd say it was compatible :)
-
yup, 2000 plated pre facelift.. on a v reg
-
check the ecu anyway, but im 99% sure yours is ok.
-
anyone else? we have interest ;)
-
mines a 2.5 2000 model, what type of ECU should i be looking for in order to ensure compatability?
-
One of the easy ways to check compability is the paperclip test.
If you can do it, then you probably have the Motronic 2.8.1 chip and that is upgradeable.
I will put my full recommendation behind this chip. I was well impressed in the Elite I had. :D
Get one, you WILL be pleased you did.
I noticed a significant improvement in initial pull off, and when "exploring" the higher areas of the rev range! ;)
Drive sensibly and you will see fuel economy improve (but be realistic with expectations). Mine went up by 2-3mpg when I drove sensibly.... however for the first few weeks I didn't and the economy was not good! ::)
Oh, and the service was excellent too.
I had the chip fitted for some 12,000 miles (up to when I sold the car) and I never experienced any problems (attributable to the chip anyway! :-[ )
I did find one weird thing though. If I left the ignition on for a couple of seconds before starting, I got the EM light on and a fault code stored.
It was a code 55. ECU fault. Clearly something else was looking for an identifier it could not find.
However, if you just turned the engine straight on.... no fault code!
Never caused a single problem, so it never bothered me.
-
...well Dave thats good enough for me.
Providing i am compatible i am in on this one ;)
-
i know mine can do the paperclip test so i am good to go as well by the seems of it
-
Ive had one definate.
need 2 more people to get your chip at the bargain price of £130.00!!
