Title: Swindon - 2.5td alternator/waterpump belt
Post by: Turk on 14 May 2012, 18:49:37
Enroute to London and the afore mentioned belt has gone AWOL. :'(
Can't see Mr RAC having one on board.
Halfrauds Swindon have a
750mm belt in stock, but something tells me that's nowhere near long enough.

Woohoo...just found an old one in the boot....but no tools. Ah well, job for Mr RAC.

Likewise I could make my way from Gloucester with a range of tools....

You'll have to do most of the work tho, as I'm an invalid at the moment ;D

Mr RAC should be here within an hour. Don't want to inconvenience OOFers unless I have too. Cheers Guys.

Sods law, I pulled my tools out yesterday to carry other gear and didn't put them back in last night.

Glad I've got the belt diagram with me.

Mr RAC turned up within the hour, we slapped the old belt on, and I was enroute again.

Thanks for all the offers. Good to know there's a nationwide network of OOFers ready to assist.  :y

Although thinking about it, with OOFers in Spain, Turkey etc it's more like a global network.  :y :y

Any idea what happened? If the old belt was re-used how did it come adrift? I can only think that the tensioner is weak or broken. :-\ :-\ :-\ :y

lol if you read the post it says belt went awol, aka it snapped and fell off? quite common on the td ussually when the tensioner is seized or worn bushes in it dont allow it to function properly :y

Yes, but in Post #5 Turk says they put the old belt back on! ???

Edit: and having re-read the original, he found an 'old one' in the boot. Mystery solved, Ain't it great to have a memory. ;D ;D ;D

I changed the belt and tensioner towards the middle of last year. I'd say I've done 10k max. I have a sneaky feeling that the belt may have been damaged when the aircon pressure plate made it's successful bid for freedom on Sunday. I heard a thump underneath and when I looked in the mirror I saw a small black disc roll into the centre reservation.
On checking things over I found the plate was missing, but couldn't see any damage or signs of impact anywhere else.
