.............. a backfire on one bank (2/4/6) of a v6 ?
SIA is removed.
I've pretty much ruled out coilpack, plugs, leads.
-
cam timing out maybe
-
Hope not.
Belt and tentioners done last month :-\
I will check when it stops raining :y

Hey up TG,
Sorry what do you mean ''backfire'' from one bank?

Hey up TG,
Sorry what do you mean ''backfire'' from one bank?
Popping and backfiring from the nearside (passenger) exhaust during acceleration.
You feel it banging under the car.
Normally with a light foot about 1200 revs and again at about 4000 revs.
Acceleration is crap until you get over about 3000 rpm then its not to bad.
Put it this way, I got blown away by a fully laden transit at the lights yesterday.
I just sat there trying to look like I didn't give a toss :'(
Mpg is down to mid teens.
I normally get 22 mpg ish.

Did you rule out coilpack/plugs/leads by swapping them out?
Have you got any way of checking the short/long term fuel trims (well, the equivalent values on a pre-facelift, they're not called that IIRC)? One incredibly rich bank due to a bad O2 sensor might do it..
Otherwise it's got to be either bad spark (you're clearly still getting fuel if you're hearing bangs) or cam timing being massively adrift. My suspicion if they're that bad would be the latter, sadly :-/

oh i see, so it's coming from around or below passenger exhaust manifold?

whats it like at idle?

If. :-\

Do you have any codes Steve?
If a knock sensor has come loose from the block the car will feel flat as a witches tit.. But would normally throw a code up..
-
Right, just back from picking the missus up from work.
Coughing and farting all the way there.
This time, it put the eml on.
Just plugged the laptop in and it has thown up these codes.
38 / 98
O2 sensors 1 and 2 circuit low voltage :'(
I've locked the car up for the night and disconected the battery to see if thing settle down :-\
Just remembered ................ i've also changed the ICV because the revs was all over the place on idle.
Iirc, according to the laptop the idle air was 5 times more then needed.
Changing the valve sorted that out :y
Thanks for the replies :y

Just re connected the battery and started it up.
Fired first time.
Let it idle on petrol for 20 minutes then took the boss to work.
Its still running like a sack of sh*t but made it there and back without any codes.
Daz, where abouts is this sensor mate ?
I'll have a look :y
Aaron, coil pack is new. Plugs are new. Leads are used but known good.
Jon, idle is spot on (now i've replaced the Icv and sealed it all up)
Webby, yeh it seems to be coming from under the passenger seat / transmision area.
Should also add, the cats are aftermarket (yes I know) but only 12 month old as is the rest of the exhaust system.
