Transformer in the adapter consumes power whether connected to phone or not

They are using less power than when charging, but are still using some power as the transformer circuit is active.

To use no power either unplug or switch off.

:)

They are using power but afaik it is very small - under a tenner cost if it was plugged in 24/7 for a year

looked it up it's even less

Electricity Consumption of Common Domestic Appliances.

http://www.willsmith.org/climatechange/domestic.html (http://www.willsmith.org/climatechange/domestic.html)

1 unit = 1Kwh @ say 11p per unit

charger 1w / 24hrs not charging thats 24000 hrs per unit
8760 hrs per year = .36 units per year or 4p

not really worth an argument  :o

missed a zero - it's even less

Aah yes, but if everybody in the country leaves them on all the time that's an awful lot of power being wasted!!!  :o :o :o

Unless you rely on solar power, then these phantom power usages become a problem  ;D ;D

This argument has gone on for ages with regards to equipment on 'standby'.
TiggerHayes is right....when you add the whole country in, it is a lot of power. But the 'powers that be' led a massive campaign, telling us that a tv on standby used 10% power......this was then denied by the experts as pure poppycock, and this is the conclusion that was posted by Phillbutt :y

And when you add up all the transformers you have around the place I bet you most people pay a couple of quid a year.

2x Hands free phone, camera charger, 2 transformers for speakers on desktops, inside both desktops, eight TVs, set top decoders, Sky boxes?....................

No wonder some of my older relatives switch off AND unplug appliances to stop the electricity leaking away ;D ;D ;D

Just to be awkward, are they transformers or "switch mode power supplies" I don't know if it makes any difference or not.  :-\

Most of them are switched mode these days, which makes them much more efficient when they don't have any load.

hmmm....a bit more efficient as they still operate burst mode.

Think of all the extra windfarms we need to meet demand!!  :D

I would love a windfarm in my back garden. I think I'm the only person in Britain who would, mind, everywhere round here is littered with people campaigning against them.

I grant you, I could maybe fit one tower in, but that's good enough!

What they should do is put a windfarm behind every curry house in Britain!! Energy problem solved!! 8)

I think just one behind Jimbob's arse would be enough!  ;D

With the bonus that you could then run a combine cycle gas turbine on the methane and double the output. :y
