Does anyone hold trade cards for other car manufacturers? asking as I am starting to do a bit of servicing locally and it's obviously better to use O.E parts where possible so want to get as many as possible!
-
Few other manufacturers do it ;)
-
Camberley Auto Factors & Halfords as parts suppliers. But with the latter you need some form of engineering qualification. List on their website. CAF just sign up for £2.00. :y

Most service items are probably best bought from a proper factor rather than a main dealer. That's things like plugs, belts, filters, oil, gaskets etc. If you use the same place regularly/frequently, they'll soon start giving you a discount.
Buy enough stuff and pay with cash, and you should be able to negotiate a discount immediately. There is a decent margin built into most prices to do this. Plus there is the VAT 'adjustment.'
If you pay with a company cheque/card, most won't argue about giving trade prices. Turning up in a signwritten van helps for that too!

Things like plugs oil and filters are cheapest and best quality from a vx dealer via trade club.
Cam belt kits however, are less competitive, even with the extra 10% currently on offer on tc.
-
Peugeot certainly have a Trade Club but I have no idea how good it is

Pretty good prices but you don't get a card or anything and its trade only I believe.

Whilst some parts are OK from factors, bog standard service items aren't...
Air filters - compare a genuine one to a pattern, genuine has double the surface area ;)
Some gaskets have to be GM, as pattern are useless
Cost wise, with TC access, the prices of filters, oil, pads etc etc are unbeatable
But I will use pattern where the quality is similar/better and the price is significantly cheaper :y

Just how many Vauxhall parts fit other manufacturers like the OP asked for? Vivaro/Master/Primastar excepted.
TC prices are undeniably very good, but I think unbeatable is being a bit ingenuous.
For instance, I put NGK plugs(used them for 25 years) in my V6 for the same cost as VX ones, without the trip to either Sittingbourne or Maidstone to get them. Same applies to things like oil filters; they're not an absolute bargain if you have to do a 30mile round trip to get them! Especially if you add the both time and cost into the equation.

I think the thing others picked up on, and certainly my point, was:

I think that is incorrect advice, all other things being equal :y
-
Point taken about distance to Vaux but my nearest is fairly close, plugs do work out cheap and the vauxhall ones do fit other makes e.g I put some in my brothers BMW and the GM oil/coolant goes in anything.
Point is I am looking to earn some extra pennies(+ I enjoy it) so doing a few services here and there and I could use pattern crap parts and pocket the, possibly considerable difference but would rather use OE where possible to keep owners happy and drum up a bit more repeat trade.
-
All the companies do trade, however, most of them won't give you a card. I've got a trade account with most dealers.

Yes, I should clarify what I said...
Few manufacturers run a scheme like Vauxhall Trade Club. Pug do. I think VAG do. Thats about it.
All dealers will do trade if you prove/blag you are trade.
Tradeclub is cheaper than Trade. Often significantly.

Unfortunately Jaguar don't :(

No. Even I struggle, and even then it tends to be a maximum of 10%

You a closet Jaguar owner then Jaime? ::) ::)

I have a solution for Jaguar / Land Rover and Bentley, Rolls Royce.
I have the Microcat for Land Rover, JEPC for Jagaur and the parts catalogue for 1996+ Bentley / Rolls Royce including the VAG owned Bentley.
I tend to go in with a printed page from the parts catalogue and circle the parts I require, or quote part numbers, mention I'm 'trade' and usually get a decent enough discount.
Trick is to make it look like you know what you're talking about ;D
Best at JLR so far has been 40%.

Don't suppose anyone (Del?) knows if BMW have a trade club? Never been good at 'blagging' :( Mind, need to persuade the warranty company to fix the leaky diff, before I service it.
