It occurred to me, whilst watching the hype on tv this morning, that I would think very carefully before entering these games. You may arrive home afterwards to find a letter from the DWP on your doormat stating that your benefits have been stopped and that they have video evidence, backed by 10000 witnesses, that suggests you are quite fit really.

Many a true word Steve! ;D
-
Yes Phil, people have shied away from replying because they probably think its me being me again, but I actually did wonder about it.
-
I actually know one of the Paralympic sailors and she was desperately trying to get permission to compete with the able bodied sailors but the governing body decided it would be unfair on her because she only has one hand ::)
But I do understand what you mean Steve, although I'd like to think that most Paralympic Athletes are above trying to fiddle DWP :-\

Unfortunately the DWP aren't above trying to fiddle the disabled out of their benefits.

No no no. You misunderstand me. It's this government. I wouldn't put anything past them.

I think we're both on the same wavelength (my word, that doesn't happen often ::) ;D) but coming at it from different angles ;)
I understood what you meant but was trying to say that I'd hope that the paralympians aren't claiming benefits ;)

Not a comment on Steves original post - but prompted me to highlight a fantastic individual
My nephew had a growth on his brain stem that was only noticed when he went for a medical to join the RAF. He was a very fit active 20 year old with loads of ambition. After weeks in intensive care following an op to remove it , he was left with a paralyisis on one side of his face and body, now 28 years old he has spent years rehabilitating, learning to live with disability and disfigurement. He has challenged every obstacle in his way.
In September he will be part of the Paralympic wheelchair fencing team, I'm going to watch and I will be the proudest Uncle.
