Title: Fitting aftermarket radio
Post by: roberts_1409 on 24 May 2012, 21:14:24
Hi all. I'm attempting to fit an aftermarket radio to my Omega B, but can't get it in cuz of all the bl00dy wires and plugs in the way.

Is it actually possible, or do any adjustments have to be made?
Cheers
Craig

Yes it can be done, is yours a facelift? Assuming not as it's quite tight around radio on ore facelifts. If you have an Elite & Bose, you need to rip it all out! Speakers, amp everything.

I think only certain units work with the information display.

The stations don't come up on the display, but I'm really not fussed about that, has them on the radio anyway so thats not a problem.
It works fine, had it all plugged up and everything.
Just cant get it all the way in the hole with all the wires and plugs in the way.
Anything behind there that needs cutting to make more room??

Nothing to cut. You just have to be methodical about where all the connectors and loom will sit, and not just try to ram it in (which usually ends in tears at bedtime)

Did end up very stressed. Tried putting the plugs behind and up behind part of the dash.
I'll give it another go tomorrow when I have some light
Cheers

On my pre-facelift I had the glovebox and instrument cluster out (to pull a DAB aerial wire through & to fit a Nokia handsfree kit).

With the extra access it was possible to ease the chunky iso adapters into odd spaces as I pushed the head unit in.

It IS possible but I find fitting the B*bolt easy by comparison ::)

Having just done this, I'm glad I am not proposing to fit another wireless! :y

If I remember correctly this tight space was one of the reasons police in UK started buying volvos instead of migs cause couldn't fit their equipment int the mig.
Well at least read somewhere something like this

I drive an ex-plod face lift and my local constabulary STILL use them as training cars! Whenever, I see them on the road, the instructors wave at me and give the thumbs up! :y
As far as your radio goes, do as suggested, see how the harness sits in the tray and you should be able to work it through...
Out of interest, are you using an adaptor cable? This will make your job harder....
