Title: A Badger question.....
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 25 May 2012, 17:56:43
I laid some turf in the garden recently, but the bloody badgers keep digging it up!!  >:(

Doe's anyone have any tips to stop the buggers!!  ???  I think I've heard that peeing on the grass discourages them, but I think my pee would kill the grass!!  :-\

Any ideas??  :)

A few ideas but not many work such as dangling diesel or creasote soaked rags from sticks to the badgers entrance or permanently stopping them using a electric fence . Read that they are after the grubs so its though you could feed them to stop that  :( i think that would encourage a whole circus of badgers  ???

Do like our UK neighbours used to do.....put out a cooked chicken dinner every night.

More seriously, can you stop their entry route to your garden? If not then the answer is to provide more tempting food somewhere else till the lawn gets established methinks.

Unfortunately, wire fence dug down far enough that they give up trying to tunnel under it is the only humane way I know of.

Would the PIR-activated ultrasonic deterrents be effective against badgers?

I've had one in my garden (ultrasonic unit, not a badger) for quite some time now and have not had any recurrence of cat and fox nuisance.

Pissing on the fence is ok as long as there is someone filming it for our entertainment ;D ;D

Came across one that had had an encounter with one of Michelin's finest at some speed when I went for a bike ride last night. That appeared to have done the trick. ;)
