I've pressed the button on this thread to test that theory - I do hope that TB doesn't empty out too much of his Tetleys. :-\

imho it would be nice if the button disappeared after it had been used, as its often used many times for the same post - no complaints though, better to be notified a few times, than not at all.

Do members actually complain about other members posts?.

Do should a Mod then get back to the person with a view to closing the issue down?

I just typed a long complaint about a post, which was going to be sent to a moderator.I then decided it was pointless to do so and deleted it.Theres 5 minutes of my life I wont get back. ::)

But, if you had sent it would you actually get a reply? If it's seen by multiple Mods, then what's to stop Mod A thinking that Mod B has replied to the person raising the issue?

Well.........I never have any need to worry about anyone reporting my inoffensive, incisive and balanced posts.

I don't know about the system here .. but on other forums I've been involved with the "alert" button enters the post into a moderators area and it can be seen by all mods who/when/how it was dealt with.

I have reported several posts over the years and don't think a "reply" is always needed ... sometimes it is obvious that the matter has been dealt with ... thread disappears, comments deleted or edited etc etc .

I have had "thanks for reporting that" ... I've also heard nothing ... makes no odds as long as the matter is dealt with IMHO. These guys work hard for no reward ... why do we need to increase the work they do ?? I'm just very grateful for all they do, and, they are human and will make mistakes, just like the rest of us. Becoming a Mod/Admin does not make you infallible.

I nodded off with the iPad in my lap the other night and when I woke up I had a box on screen saying 'Report to Moderator'. It had a message box to fill in, which I obviously didn't fill in, so if I reported someone for a totally inoffensive post I apologise.  :-[ :-[

As I bailed out and went back to the main headings, would this 'Report' have gone through, or do you have to fill in the message and ok it. I won't ever use the function, I'm just curious if my mistake the other night went through.  :-\

In my case, it generates an email notification which links to the post in question and shows whatever comment the clipe reporter makes.   ;D

If I then click the link and then see the post is in the bin or the relevant comment either amended or deleted, I do nowt else.  If its still 'live' and worthy (in my opinion) of action, it gets moderated.  If I think its all fair and above board then I leave it alone.

If another mod does the same view thing as I have done and decides to moderate the post subsequently then, thats also fair by me.

The admin team have, I think, a reasonable fair/even grasp of whats wanted as regards spam, insults, innappropriate comment et al but that said, we are all fallible.  What suits one does not by default suit another and thus, if somethings deleted/moderated then in 99.999% of cases, will not subsequently be 'unmoderated'.  But that does happen sometimes.....  :-*

So, if you hit the button in error and then immediately bail out of that topic, does that still go through or do you have to type a comment and ok it.  :-\

Basically, what I'm asking is, did I report a post accidentally the other night. Surely I can't be the first person to do this.  ;D
Just to be clear, I would never knowingly hit that button, I would just move on to another post.  :y

TBH, I'm not sure. I look at the alert mods notifications kinda 'en masse' when recieved and if one needs something done, I do it.  If not, I leave it alone.  I do not always read who the sender is given the volume that sometimes is incoming about the same subject and simply do a blanket notify read/delete in my mail prog as required after making my descision.

Hope that clarifies a bit?   :)

I usually just ignore any dubious postings too but if I did read something that particularly bothered me then I doubt I'd press 'the button', I'd be more likely to make a comment on the thread instead.

You're not the only one to do this, I've hit the button in error quite a few times, I don't think I'd ever bother actually using it as it's meant to be used
