Title: Camshaft sensor?
Post by: kev2b4 on 28 May 2012, 07:55:21
Car is 2.5 petrol
A couple of months ago had code 19 ( engine running) ,
1/ changed sensor
no change
2/ another sensor (both genuine VX)
no change - lack of power, would'nt rev above ~4k with no load
3/ took car out 30 mph, pushed gear selector to 3rd (no change obviously)
then 2 - revs increased
then 1 ( ~25-27 mph) revved to redline or therabouts , sounds like have blown an exhaust gasket drivers side
4/ obtained a MAF ( as I had acquired one anyway)
Fault codes  (engine running)
19 ( 3 times) Incorrect RPM Signal
73 (3 times) Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low
59 ( 3 times) Intake Manifold Valve 1 Voltage Low
21 (3 times) Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Voltage High

would appear to have possibly an air leak on air inlet side , which might explain 73 ( no trace of leak with carb cleaner)
19,21 possibly same fault- but unlikely to be crank sensor - as two faulty new ones seems unlikely.

was wondering if have disturbed a multi pin connector somewhere feeding into the ecu, which is throwing up all these faults? previously car had run ok

Engine now ticks over slowly and roughly - so may have caused a camshaft to jump a tooth - haven't done a compression check yet- not until fri at the earliest( and away next weekend)

Exhaust gasket ( hopefully not manifold) - will be changed when I look under it and identify the offending item- but would not expect this to affect the faults - unless there is a multicore nearby which has been slightly cooked.

code 19 is crankshaft sensor have a read of debs posts on her saga of crankshaft sensors, there are different types for the 2.5

Check rear multi-ram connector, highlighted in yellow circle

Thanks for replies ,
1/ sensor is exact replacement ie siemens ( had checked debs thread , as i didn't want to get caught out)
2/ its a lot easier to see when engine is out!
