Title: A Question For The Admins/Mods
Post by: waspy on 09 June 2012, 18:15:13
Does OOF suffer from Spammers? ie people wishing to advertize sites for handbags & other crap.
I'm always banning so called members on an HSV (Monaro/VXR8 & Commodore) forum for spamming.
We ban by username, e-mail ad & IP so there's not much chance of them coming back (unless you know different).
I've been a member on here for four & a half years, I've not seen one yet ;D :y

After all these years & never seeing a spammer on OOF. I've just seen & reported one.
Quite ironic after asking this question a few days ago ;D ;D ;D ;D

That was the third one i've seen from what I think is the same person - mini cooper always the car  ::)

If any Admin/mod reads this can you not get his ip address blocked or something along those lines

Purposely being coy on some of the things we know about some of the behaviours.  We don't want to give the human spammers too many clues. The automated spammers are tweakable to change behaviours if the spammers think we've got them half nailed  :-X

Thanks for the report - by deleting them quickly, they dont get noticed, and hopefully they'll realise that OOF is not really worth the effort for human spammers.

Mini Pooper. Must be quite busy. The number of times I go to gen help and find a brand new spam post just seconds before I've arived. Persitant. And early hours...if that's a clue to time zone, I'm not sure. :-\
