Post by: Richie London on 11 June 2012, 13:20:30
After 10 yrs my Goodman tv has finally passed away. now I've seen a tv i want but what's the difference and the best of the two. Led or lcd

A good LCD will probably beat a poor LED.

Its all about how good the electronics are now, only the unbranded have poor panels now.

As a rule, Led is sharper and normally has less of a snail trail when you are watching fast moving sport.

How much have you got to spend ?

A lot of "sale" TVs are either old stock (thus, a generation or 2 behind) or unbranded junk.

Older generations may lack Freeview-HD, or have quite old electronics in.

Might be a idea to pop in and see if they have on on display that you can switch on  :-\ :-\

But even at 450 quid for a 42 inch lcd, thats bloody cheep  :-\

Some you win, some you lose I suppose  ;)

It doesn't appear to have an HD Freeview tuner. I think I'd want that in any TV these days, TBH.

Only 50Hz refresh, so movement could be a bit nasty.

As with all TVs, and especially where the price seems to be too good to be true, you need to see a properly setup one working to decide if you can live with the picture.

Sound quality:

    NICAM sound system.
    2 x 6 watts RMS power output.

Whoopee! Shame NICAM has disappeared along with the analogue channels. ::)

So yes, don't rely on Argos' product description. Find out the model number and get some proper specs.

each led can last up to 15000hrs on standard use lcd can last until the screen is smashed,
dont buy these no name brand as they are harder to find parts for, even more so for usa market as parts are not listed.,
i like it when samsung lcd tv's come in as they are so easy to fix, screen driver over heat. this is only because they put the tv on the wall and lean the tv over, and not leave it straight up as on stand heats up the board and cracks the main signal in chip,
logic the 5v line go's because of the glass bridge on mian ac in and blows the 5 pin switch chip. can list more makes with there faults.
but the big fault with led type tv's is heat build-up as the boards are so thin they can crack and split.

I wish I could have the strength to do away with TV all together, I have a work colleague who does not have one, and he is a very happy chap.

I find the best way is to trawl around the retailers, Comet, John Lewis etc, find the one that you like and then search the Net for the best deal for that model. :y

2 weeks ago, old sony decided to give up.. no picture and no sound.. I decided to buy a new one..

after some search decided on this

http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UE46ES7000UXXU (http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UE46ES7000UXXU)

46 inch model.. it has voice and motion control.. dual cpu , has internet, youtube ,camera,3d etc etc..

original keyboard was a bit expensive (and cant be found easily ) instead I bought a logitech keyboard with mouse control which does the job..

not cheap but quite pleased with it..  :)

Rich , imo look for tvs that support internet and youtube.. even some older models support it.. so wont be expensive and you dont have to watch stupid channels and crap tv shows.. :y

Trouble with the online, stake 'em high, sell 'em cheap places is they tend to only give 1yr warranty.  Most shops will do 5yr. The extra warranty is worth it on flatscreen TVs IME, else 13 months in, you end up in a battle trying to prove SoG to faceless online companies.  And the Credit Card companies don't give a toss.

Oh, and IME, keep away from Sonex (they have the Sony Centre franchise).  Their stock seems to be returns/used/demo'd, sold as new  >:(

I'd say get some double sided foam and stick a Raspberry Pi to the back of it instead, then shove its' output into one of the HDMI inputs. Smart TV functionality gives you access to the manufacturers' walled garden of content, which they will then fail to update, using it as a carrot to go and buy next years model when you find it doesn't work with <insert online service here> any more. ;)

they have built in browsers so you can use net over it..  youtube, facebook, skype work as expected.. besides you dont need to buy another tv, they have an add on card that you can change the cpu hardware for example quad core instead of dual..

If you must buy from the high street then check Richer Sounds out, the TV prices are average but the extended warranty is very good and affordable

Also House of Frazer......prices can be surprising.....and they give a 5yr warranty as standard....
